Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has stated that he is not concerned about securing re-election in 2027, emphasizing that his focus is on delivering the dividends of democracy during his first tenure.
Speaking in Kano, Yusuf expressed confidence in Allah’s will, adding that his re-election would be determined by divine providence, not political pressure.
Focus on Performance

“What I am worried about is not re-election,” the governor said. “I am more concerned about delivering the dividends of democracy on the mandate given to me in this first tenure.
I want the good people of Kano to judge me by my performance at the end of this tenure.”
Yusuf also took a swipe at his political opponents, claiming they were rejected by the people in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.
“We know those people who were massively rejected in both 2019 and 2023. We won against them at a time when we had no political office— not even a councillorship seat. But Allah made it possible for us to win with a landslide victory,” he stated.
Divine Will Over Re-election
Governor Yusuf reiterated his faith in Allah’s plan for his political future. “I am destined to be a governor. It is my total belief and submission to the will of Allah that if He so wills, I will serve a second term. If not, I won’t. So why should I bother myself?”
Mandate and Resilience
Despite downplaying the importance of political pressure, Yusuf pledged to resist any attempts to undermine his mandate, insisting that his achievements in office would speak for him.
“My performance will speak for me, not political pressure,” he said.
The governor also urged political stakeholders to avoid making inciting statements ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in Kano State.
