The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, has called on politicians and other political actors to embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against inflammatory rhetoric, character assassination and divisive politics.
The union made the call in a communiqué issued on Friday at the end of its congress held at the Dr. Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki, and presided over by the State Council Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor.

The congress urged political actors to comply with electoral guidelines and focus their campaigns on policies, programmes and ideas capable of promoting peace and democratic development in the state.
The NUJ also expressed concern over delays in the distribution of government farm inputs, appealing to the Ebonyi State Government to ensure timely delivery of the inputs to genuine farmers to boost food production and enhance food security.
The journalists further advised residents of flood-prone communities to strictly adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities and avoid blocking drainage channels in order to reduce the risk of flooding during the peak of the rainy season.
The congress also appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to allocate an alternative parcel of land for the union’s proposed journalists’ housing estate following the revocation of its earlier allocation at the EBSU Pocket Layout.
The NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, responsible journalism and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
