Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed reports that he plans to defect from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tambuwal’s media office described the reports circulating on social media as false and baseless, insisting that the former Sokoto State governor had no intention of joining the APC.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, on behalf of the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Media Office.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded,” the statement said.
The denial followed the circulation of photographs and video clips on social media, which reportedly triggered speculation about a possible change in the senator’s political affiliation.
However, his media office maintained that interactions with politicians from other parties should not be interpreted as evidence of an impending defection.
“Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance,” the statement added.
The office explained that Tambuwal had built relationships with political figures across party lines over several years of public service, stressing that such connections were based on mutual respect and should not be misconstrued as a plan to switch parties.
It reaffirmed that the senator remained committed to the ADC and was focused on strengthening the party, fostering wider political cooperation and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC. His focus is on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement said.
The media office urged supporters, journalists and social media users to verify information concerning the senator’s political activities before circulating or publishing reports.
It warned against presenting speculation as established fact and called for public discussions to focus on pressing national concerns, including economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges.
Tambuwal governed Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023 before being elected senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections.
He previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and contested the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party before joining the ADC.
His denial comes amid political realignments and alliance-building by political parties and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite the speculation, Tambuwal’s media office maintained that his political priority remained the consolidation of the ADC and mobilisation of Nigerians for the next electoral contest.
