Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State and the FCT.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during an engagement with members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor said he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the presidential election, if Tinubu loses in both territories.
According to him, the FCT is where he currently works, while Rivers State remains his home state, making electoral success for Tinubu in both areas a responsibility he is prepared to take personally.
Wike said he would not consider himself qualified to remain FCT minister if he failed to secure victory for Tinubu in the territory.
He also said political appointees should be prepared to accept responsibility for the electoral performance of their areas of influence.
The minister further disclosed that a multi-party political arrangement was being organised in the FCT to mobilise support for Tinubu and other candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike’s declaration comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with the minister continuing to mobilise support for Tinubu while maintaining his political influence in Rivers State.
He served as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023 before his appointment as FCT minister by President Tinubu.
