The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that five political parties will vie for the Yobe East Senatorial by-election in Yobe State.
This revelation was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, during a press briefing on the commission’s readiness for the upcoming bye and re-run elections scheduled for February 3rd, 2024.
The participating political parties in the by-election include the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi highlighted that campaigning by these parties is currently ongoing and must adhere to the legal requirement to cease 24 hours before the election day, which falls on February 1, 2024.
The electoral activities are slated to cover eight local government areas, 75 registration areas, and 993 polling units within the Yobe East Senatorial constituency, in addition to one in Fika town.
To ensure a smooth electoral process, a total of 4,232 ad-hoc staff will be deployed, and 1,339 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines will be utilized for voter accreditation.
