Prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ipokia, Ikenne, Sagamu, Ijebu North, Imeko Afon, Yewa North, Ifo, Abeokuta South, Obafemi Owode and Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Areas of Ogun State on Saturday defected to the PDP.
The defectors numbering 972 officially denounced their membership of the APC and SDP at a get together organised by the PDP in Ogun State.
The defectors were received into the PDP by the Senator representing Ogun East senatorial district at the National Assembly and the Southwest leader of PDP, Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Speaking at the event, Leader of the defectors from Ifo Local Government Area, Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi said that his decision to join the PDP was due to the numerous undemocratic practices in APC.
“This is 2016 and already we are being told those that will contest elective positions in 2019 even when the primaries have not been held.
“There is so much undemocratic practices going on in APC especially in the selection of Candidates. We can no longer continue this way.
“We need a platform that will give a level playing ground to all members,” Akinlabi said.
In his speech, the Ogun State Chairman of the PDP, Engineer Bayo Dayo assured the defectors that they would be treated as equal with other members.
“Anyone of you with intentions to contest the 2019 polls will get a level playing ground as others,” Engineer Bayo said.
Also at the event were Chief Kolapo Ogunjobi, Hon.Segun Seriki, the State Coordinator of Omoilu Foundation, Otunba (Comrade) Niyi Osoba, party’s state executive members including its state Organising secretary, Hon. Koye Ijaduoye.
