Republic of Ireland international winger Aiden McGeady, yesterday, completed his move to Everton on a four-year contract.

The former Celtic and Spartak Moscow winger has been eager to leave the Lokomotiv Stadium, following a series of falling-outs with manager Valery Karpin.

Upon signing for the Toffees, McGeady was introduced to the Everton faithful before Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Norwich City.

McGeady, 27, will link up with a number of fellow internationals at the club; Seamus Coleman Darren Gibson and James McCarthy have regularly featured this season for Everton.

The Republic of Ireland international’s CV makes for impressive reading; born an raised in Glasgow, he joined Queen’s Park in 2000 before moving to Celtic’s youth team a year later.

After making the breakthrough at the Bhoys in 2004, he became a regular in the side – and leaving the club in 2010 with 252 appearances, 37 goals and 83 assists, as well as helping them to four league titles.

He joined Spartak Moscow in 2010, where he played 93 games and helping the side to a runners-up spot in the league in the 2011-12 season.

McGeady has represented Republic of Ireland 63 times since 2004 and remains a key figure in their search for success.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez spoke about his new signing and how pleased he was to sign him this transfer window.

He said: “It seemed as though we were going to get him in the summer, but with Nikica Jelavic set to move to Hull it was important he could join us quicker.”
