HON. DAKUKU PETERSIDE
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, on Tuesday said the All Progressives Congress legislators would appeal against the Federal High Court ruling restraining them from changing the house leadership.
Peterside, representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the house proceedings could not be adjudicated in the court of law.
“The internal proceedings of the house cannot be adjudicated upon in the court of law. However, because the court has given that ruling, we are proceeding to the Court of Appeal.
“We are going to appeal against the ruling and that is exactly the situation now. So, this does not affect anybody’s membership of the house, members will convene for normal sitting”, he said.
Peterside said legislators who defected to the APC were resolute in the decision they took and would remain in the party.
He also urged their constituents to remain calm and law abiding, while assuring them of effective representation.
“Everybody should remain calm. They will continue to get effective representation in the National Assembly.
“Rivers State has a strong delegation in the National Assembly, one of the best delegations, we will continue to enjoy the benefits of good representation”, he said.
Peterside said eight of the 13 members of the House of Representatives from Rivers joined the APC.
