The FCTA has dismissed the new FCT Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike’s authorisation of widespread destruction in Abuja.
The media has recently reported that 6,000 homes in 30 Abuja slums will be demolished.
A statement sent on Wednesday by FCTA spokesperson Anthony Ogunleye said, “these stories are entirely false and without any basis in reality.”

Ogunleye said, “for the avoidance of doubt, the Minister did not in any of his pronouncements list the areas or the number of illegal houses to be removed; rather, his emphasis has always been that illegal settlements and structures would be removed for the greater good of the public.”
Remember that the FCT’s expansion and upkeep are governed by rules and regulations that were developed with an eye toward ensuring long-term viability and protecting the rights of current and future residents. Any choices made in this area are based on thorough research, input from affected parties, and strict conformity to the law.
Ogunleye went on to reassure everyone that the minister will follow through on his promise to enhance living conditions in the FCT.
