Alhaji Suleiman Adamu Gummi, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs in Zamfara State, has promised to restore and strengthen Islamic Sharia there.
Gummi told reporters in Gusau, the state capital, that his ministry is reaching out to relevant parties and authorities to secure the establishment of Sharia law in Zamfara.
Because “this present administration is new,” he added, “we are advising the citizens of the state to exercise patience with it.”

He urged Muslim religious leaders to serve as advisors to the state administration out of respect for Allah and in honesty.
Earlier, Malam Bashiru Surajo, the ministry’s permanent secretary, praised Governor Dauda Lawal for appointing Suleiman Adamu Gummi, a well-respected Islamic scholar, to the position of Commissioner of Religious Affairs in an effort to reinvigorate the state’s Sharia legal system.
Infostride News recounts that in 2000, many people died in Kaduna, Aba, and Umuahia due to the implementation of the Sharia law system in Zamfara State, which was led by Ahmed Sani Yarima.
