The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kano has ruled that All Progressives Congress candidate Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna won the Kano governor’s race.
After nullifying some votes cast for Kano Governor and NNPP candidate Abba Kabir Yusuf, the panel rendered its final decision.
Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey, the presiding judge, ruled that Governor Yusuf’s NNPP did not receive a large enough margin of votes to win.

It claimed that some of Yusus’s votes should not have been counted.
Gawuna of the APC was successful in having his challenges based on overvoting, illegal votes, and his lack of NNPP membership dismissed by the tribunal.
The Tribunal mandated that INEC recall the Certificate of Return issued to Yusuf and provide a new one to Gawuna, the true election victor.
She said that Abba Kabir Yusuf couldn’t run for office because, according to the legislation, he had to be a member of the NNPP at least 30 days before the elections were held, and that he hadn’t been one of those members.
Gawuna was proclaimed the victor with 897,000 votes, while Abba received 850,000 votes when the recount was completed.
