The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned a N50 billion suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Nigerian Government until April 27 for further mention.
The adjournment was announced by Justice Inyang Ekwo after Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s lawyer, informed the court that he had filed a notice for a change of counsel.
Ejimakor stated that he would be taking over the case from Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, who initially filed the suit on April 7, 2022.

In response, Justice Ekwo directed Ejimakor to verify if a similar matter was pending before any sister or other courts or if a judgment had been delivered in a similar suit.
The judge noted the absence of counsel for the defendants and ordered that a hearing notice be issued and served on them for the next adjourned date.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/462/2022, was filed by Kanu against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) as the 1st and 2nd defendants.
Kanu alleged violations of his rights, claiming that he was kidnapped from Kenya and brought back to Nigeria to stand trial.
