Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged for a thorough investigation into the allegation of budget padding to the tune of N3.7 trillion raised by suspended Bauchi Central senator, Abdul Ningi.
In a post on X, the former Vice President stated that Ningi’s suspension cannot silence the allegation of fiscal corruption in the Senate.
He emphasized that the denial of the allegation is unacceptable and called for transparency in the investigation process.

Atiku highlighted the importance of the 2024 Appropriation Act in the nation’s annual planning and development, noting that allegations questioning its integrity are concerning.
He expressed concern over the lack of transparency within the Appropriation Act and the suspension of the whistle-blower senator, stating that these actions have fueled the crisis.
Demanding immediate and thorough investigation, Atiku emphasized that any deviation from serving the people’s interests in budget appropriation will be met with fierce opposition.
He stressed that accusations of corruption and illegal fiscal spending by the federal government cannot be dismissed lightly.
Atiku concluded by stating that the people of Nigeria cannot afford to ignore allegations that worsen the nation’s economic situation, linking padded budgets to increased hardships such as hunger, poverty, insecurity, energy crises, forex instability, and high cost of living.
