Abdullahi Adamu, the Transition Committee Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, has ordered the demolition of an uncompleted building in the Lokoja metropolis suspected to be a hideout for criminals.
The building, located in Old Market, a suburb of Lokoja metropolis, was demolished on Tuesday afternoon by the local government vigilante group following concerns that it was being used by criminals, particularly for drug-related activities.
According to Adamu, the building posed a security threat to residents and was believed to be a den for hardened criminals selling illicit drugs.
During the operation, a large sack loaded with Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) was discovered in the building, along with some youths caught smoking the substance.
“Lokoja will never be a haven for hardened criminals in Kogi State. We will smoke them out of their hiding place,” Adamu stated.
The Hakimi of Ward ‘D’ in Lokoja, Alhaji Isa Baba Nasidi, emphasized the need for citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious persons in their surroundings.
He noted that the demolition of the building would deter others from engaging in criminal activities in the Lokoja metropolis.
