During a lecture titled “Forgiveness as the Heart of Christianity” at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Michigan, Bishop Robert Gruss of the Saginaw Catholic Diocese addressed the gap between President Biden’s policies and his Catholic faith.
He suggested a stance of “forgiveness” for what he described as the president’s “stupidity.”
Gruss, speaking about the need to let go of unproductive anger and resentment towards others, shared personal experiences, including growing up with an alcoholic father.

He recounted writing a letter to his father in adulthood, forgiving him for the trauma of his youth.
When discussing his feelings towards President Biden, who publicly identifies as Catholic while supporting policies contrary to Church teachings, such as abortion and gender ideology, Gruss said he pities the president.
Gruss emphasized that his lack of anger towards Biden stems from a belief that the president lacks understanding of the Catholic faith rather than any malicious intent.
He described Biden as “stupid” in the sense of not comprehending the Catholic faith, rather than using the term derogatorily.
