Protesters from Nsukwa, Aniocha South local government area, on Tuesday, converged on the Delta State Government House to demand that their clan should produce the next local government council chairman.
The protesters, who identified as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the Concerned Nsukwa Clan Youths, blocked the Government House main entrance, insisting that it was Nsukwa clan’s turn to produce the next chairman.
They displayed various placards with inscriptions such as “Nsukwa Clan is not a political slave,” “Say yes to equity, fairness, justice, and balance in Aniocha south,” “Youth of Aniocha South endorse Nsukwa Clan mandate,” and “Say no to political impunity, manipulation, and oppression in Aniocha South,” among others.

The protest caused disruption to traffic and movements for hours as the protesters marched peacefully through the streets.
The protest followed the resignation of Hon Joan Onyemaechi, a former commissioner in the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led government, who stepped down to pave the way for her brother to emerge as the Council chairmanship candidate.
Despite her resignation, the local government area remains tense, with ongoing disputes over zoning arrangements.
