Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for Sokoto State, Barrister Nasiru Binji, announced on Friday that the deposed district heads in the state have indefinitely lost their royal and traditional status, as the court order on their reinstatement has been vacated.
Binji explained that the court order, which had initially stayed actions against the district heads, ceased to exist seven days after it was granted.
“The deposed district heads have not been reinstated, as the court order granted by the court has abated,” he said.

Citing Order 13 Rule 3(3) of the High Court of Sokoto State Civil Procedure Rules 2015, Binji emphasized that the order had automatically abated.
The two deposed district heads, Alhaji Buhari Dahiru Tambuwal of Tambuwal and Alhaji Abubakar Kassim of Kebbe, had sought a court order to restrain any actions against them by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the Attorney General, and the Sultanate Council.
On June 13, 2024, the Sokoto State High Court ordered a stay of actions related to their removal or dethronement.
The presiding judge, Justice Kabiru Ahmed, had ruled that the involved parties must maintain the status quo pending the determination of the suit.
However, Binji clarified that the order issued on June 13 had been vacated and that the district heads remain deposed.
“By the operation of Order 13 Rule 3 (3) of the High Court of Sokoto State Civil Procedure Rules 2015, the order has abated automatically because it was made ex parte.
The duration of the order is seven days, and it vacated on the 20th of June 2024,” the commissioner said.
