The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has commended the outcome of the recent Rivers State local government elections, declaring it a victory against political intimidation and judicial manipulation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Atiku praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for overseeing a fair electoral process, which he said demonstrated the governor’s commitment to the people’s interests and the sanctity of democracy.
Atiku noted that the successful conclusion of the election marks the end of undue political influence in the state and sets the stage for genuine governance to flourish.
“With the conclusion of the local government election in Rivers State, the shadows of political intimidation and judicial chicanery have dissipated, paving the way for the noble pursuit of governance to commence in the state,” Atiku said in his statement.
He further highlighted that the election outcome reflects the will of the people across Rivers State, from the bustling city of Port Harcourt to the serene shores of Onne.
According to Atiku, the people’s decision reinforces their determination to reject political oppression and the influence of self-serving political actors.
Atiku extended his congratulations to the newly elected local government leaders, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people and resist any temptation to embrace tyranny or overambitious political pursuits.
He also lauded the people of Rivers State for their resilience in ensuring the election was peaceful and credible, despite challenges.
“I commend the resilient people of Rivers State for their steadfastness in the face of adversity, courageously ensuring that yesterday’s election unfolded with peace and integrity,” he added.
The former vice president applauded Governor Fubara for his unwavering commitment to the democratic process, noting that the governor’s leadership safeguarded the integrity of the election.
“In the grand tapestry of this election, it is ultimately the people who emerge victorious, their sacred right to choose their leaders firmly upheld within the framework of our democratic process,” Atiku concluded.
