Gunmen have launched a fresh attack on rural communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least five people, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, and Secretary, Duwam Bosco.
The attack occurred on Monday, October 14, in Rafut village within the Kwatas district, despite earlier warnings of potential violence.
The council leaders lamented recurring attacks that have claimed numerous lives in the area.

“Terrorists, identified as members of the Fulani tribe, launched the brutal attack shortly after 7 p.m. on October 14,” the statement read.
The council noted that the assault came just a day after a security meeting was held with police and military authorities on October 13, in an effort to prevent further violence.
The attack followed a series of deadly incidents in recent days.
“Four young men guarding their family home were ambushed and killed, after which the attackers stormed the compound and murdered an elderly man, bringing the total fatalities to five,” the statement added.
The council leaders recounted previous attacks: five killed in Wumat on October 7, four in Kuba on October 10, one in Maikatako on October 11, and another victim on October 12.
The statement urged security agencies to step up efforts to prevent further loss of lives and protect the vulnerable communities from future attacks.
