To tackle impediments to ease of transportation as well as access to essential services by the people of Kwoi-Dura-Ankung-Taimen-Indofa communities in Kaduna State, the sum of N1.2billion is being spent by the
State Government to complete a 13kilometer road network.
Coordinator of the Project, Engr Yohanna Waje, told members of the National Good Governance Tour while inspecting a section of the road project that the contract was awarded to Messrs JP Sigma.
According to him, the company was initially paid 25 percent of the total contract sum as mobilization and has attained 37 percent completion of the job.
Engr. Yohanna said work commenced in October 2012 and that the slow progress experienced in the construction of the road was caused by the hilly nature of the area which he said required the contractor to carry out blasting and cutting of necessary portions to pave way for the new road.
He said the road is to be Double coat surface, however, just one layer of coat had been applied as at the time of inspection.
The Jaba Local Government Chairman, Musa Yahaya Suleiman said one of the happiest days of his life was when the construction of the road was announced.
He said to access Ndofa town before the construction of the road used to take abouit 1 hour 30 minutes but with the new road the distance could be covered in 10-15 minutes.
The representative of the Minister of Information, Mr. Kingsley Osadolor (Special Assistant, Media to the Minister) emphasized that the new road would ease transportation of goods and services and effective policing of the area.
“This new road would promote Security, open up the rural areas for access to farmers to evacuate their produce and it is for them to also have access to adequate healthcare whenever the need arises.
“We saw something similar to this clearly demonstrated by Kebbi State where previously inaccessible areas were being opened up and we are happy also that Kaduna State is taking advantage of the opportunities to try and expand its own road infrastructure”, Mr. Osadolor stated.
