The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Usman Abubakar of Shuware Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area, for allegedly snatching a phone from a female passerby.
In a statement on Monday, the police said the arrest was part of their ongoing crackdown on Shila Boys, a group of young criminals notorious for phone theft and street robbery in urban areas like Yola, Girei, Numan, and Mubi.
According to the statement, signed by police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on February 23, 2025, by Hadiza Atiku of Wuro Harde Ward, Mubi North LGA.

The complainant reported that while walking near Jambas Hotel in Mubi, the suspect blocked her, stabbed her with scissors, and robbed her of her Infinix WOD 9 handset.
“Upon receiving the report, operatives attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” the statement read.
The police confirmed the recovery of the stolen phone, a pair of scissors used in the attack, and a tricycle believed to have been used in the crime.
“The suspect is currently in custody aiding investigation,” the police added.
