A major political realignment is underway in Benue State as a new coalition comprising political actors and stakeholders from across the state has vowed to end the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, which draws its strength from all nine local government areas of Benue South Senatorial District—Apa, Agatu, Ado, Ogbadibo, Ohimini, Otukpo, Okpokwu, Oju, and Obi—met over the weekend at Haggi Suite, Otukpo, to strategize on building a formidable third-force movement aimed at reshaping the political landscape of the state.
Former Benue State PDP Chairman, Chief John Ngbede, led the charge against the existing political order, describing the PDP as “decayed and hijacked by selfish interests.” He said the party no longer represents the will and aspirations of the people.

“The PDP has been taken over by individuals who build barriers instead of bridges. They have imported poverty and division into our communities. It’s time to unite under a new coalition that will restore hope,” Ngbede stated.
Other prominent political leaders at the meeting included Hon. David Olofu, Prof. David Salifu, Chief Chris Adaba Abah, Alhaji Audu Sule, Chief Abba Adaudu, Rt. Hon. Abu Umoru, Rt. Hon. Abu Edor, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, and Mrs. Abeje Egwa.
In his remarks, former Benue State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. David Olofu, criticised the current administration for neglecting rural infrastructure, which he said has fuelled insecurity and deepened poverty across the state.
“Any government that fails to invest in rural infrastructure fails its people. Insecurity thrives where there is abandonment. That’s why our people are desperate for an alternative platform, one that prioritizes dignity, safety, and sustainable development,” Olofu said.
The coalition hinted at unveiling its political platform in the coming months, as consultations with various stakeholders continue across the state.
Political observers believe the formation of this coalition could reshape the electoral dynamics in Benue State, traditionally dominated by the APC and PDP.
