Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, on Friday held separate private meetings with two prominent northern political figures in Abuja, fueling speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi first met with former Niger State Governor, Dr Babangida Aliyu, at his Abuja residence in what sources described as a closed-door engagement.
Shortly after the meeting, the former Anambra State governor also visited ex-Kaduna State Governor and Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, at his home in the capital city.

The meetings come at a time when rumours are intensifying over alleged moves by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to woo Obi back into its fold. Obi, who ran under the Labour Party banner in the 2023 presidential election, is currently a key figure in the newly formed opposition coalition but has not formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the political platform adopted by the coalition.
Though details of the discussions have not been made public, political analysts suggest the meetings may be part of ongoing consultations as opposition leaders seek to forge a united front ahead of the next election cycle.
Neither Obi nor the hosts have issued official statements on the outcome of the engagements.
