The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has revealed that it is facing mounting pressure over whether to zone its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections
Speaking on Monday, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, said the final decision would rest with the National Executive Committee, NEC, which has the constitutional authority to determine the system of selecting the party’s flag bearer.
According to Wayas, the party is weighing two major options: adopting zoning for regional balance or conducting an open primary to allow aspirants from all parts of the country to contest freely.

“There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket,” Wayas stated in an interview with Vanguard. “There can only be one presidential candidate on the ballot come 2027 from the ADC, and the final decision on zonal rotation or open competition will definitely come down to our internal party negotiation and NEC guidelines.”
Wayas emphasised that the ADC’s overriding objective is not merely about zoning, but about providing credible leadership capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current socio-economic challenges.
“Our foremost priority as a party is rescuing Nigeria and placing the nation’s interest above all else,” she added.
