Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has warned that his successor might not be as religious or God-fearing as he is, stressing the need for transparency and fairness in the state’s leadership transition.
The governor gave the warning on Wednesday while addressing a delegation of leaders from Owerri Zone who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Owerri.
Uzodimma emphasised that the process of selecting the next governor must be guided by democracy and inclusivity, noting that the Imo Charter of Equity, which he initiated, should serve only as a principle of fairness rather than an automatic guarantee for any group.

“The Charter of Equity is not a slogan for confusion.
It is a document to remind us of the imbalance in the system and to see how best to correct it,” Uzodimma said.
He further stressed that the charter must be implemented in line with democratic principles.
“It must work hand in hand with democratic processes.
You must join me now for us to cure this confusion. If we don’t, the man coming after me may not be as religious and God-fearing as I am,” the governor added.
The Imo Charter of Equity, introduced by Uzodimma, seeks to ensure power rotation among the three zones of the state—Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe—in a bid to foster unity, inclusivity, and balanced representation in governance.
