Eschew Workplace Corrupt Practices, Olukoyede Tells Public Servants

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede has charged public servants in the country to steer clear of workplace corrupt practices and be guided by ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.

He gave the admonition on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 during the induction training, organised for new employees of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N- HYPPADEC) in Kaduna. 

Speaking through Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Nana Fatima Abubakar of the Public Affairs Department of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Olukoyede expressed delight for forums that provide opportunities for the Commission sensitizing members of the public and educating them on the activities of the Commission. 

In a paper titled “Overview of the EFCC Activities, Sensitisation on Financial Crimes, Conduct and Importance of Ethical Behaviour,” the EFCC boss enumerated what constituted ethical behaviours in a workplace and ways to sustain them. He further gave a rundown of the Commission’s mandate, structure and different ways it collaborates with stakeholders in the fight against corruption, stressing that compliance to rules and regulations at all times was imperative for all employees for any organisation to succeed.

He further reminded the participants to see their employment in the N- HYPPADEC as a call to serve, requiring them to give their best and to shun activities that will negatively affect the organisation. He urged them to report acts of corruption within their work place and environments to the Commission through the Eagle Eye App, the official digital fraud reporting App of the EFCC.

The training was aimed at acquainting the fresh N- HYPPADEC employees  with negative attitudinal and behavioural patterns in the line of their duties.

In another development, the EFCC, and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, have resolved to forge a stronger inter-agency ties pursuant to their mandates. 

The agreement was  reached when Sani Alhaji Lokoja, Zonal Director Northwest, NEMA paid a familiarisation visit to the acting Zonal Director, Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Bawa Usman Kaltungo. 

Lokoja, who expressed delight with the remarkable impacts of the EFCC’s anti-corruption fight noted the need for well-meaning Nigerians to support the fight against corruption for the progress of the country and the citizens. “The EFCC and NEMA have come a long way in terms of collaboration in the line of their duties,” he said, adding that NEMA has not taken the robust relationship for granted, but rather wishes to enhance it with collaborations with the Commission. He seized the opportunity to shed light on his agency’s responsibilities and how the EFCC can assist it make greater achievements in its mandates.

While appreciating Lokoja and his entourage for the visit, Kaltungo commended NEMA for its drive for collaboration with the EFCC and the agency’s service to the society. He noted that the EFCC was not an island unto itself and welcomes every collaboration with stakeholders that will be beneficial to the people and to both agencies of the government.

He reiterated that the fight against corruption was a collective responsibility and urged NEMA to ensure transparency and accountability in the course of discharging its responsibilities, especially as it pertains to public safety.
