A former Acting Governor of Ekiti State, Tunji Odeyemi, has emerged as chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the state congress held in Ado-Ekiti.
Over 1,000 delegates across the 16 local government areas participated in the exercise, which produced members of the State Working Committee. Odeyemi secured 936 votes to defeat his opponent, former state legal officer of the party, Sunday Olowolafe, who polled 290 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Odeyemi expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for their support, assuring them that the confidence reposed in him would not be betrayed.

He called for unity among stakeholders, stressing that the PDP must put past divisions behind and focus on repositioning itself ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
“My emergence today is not about Tunji Odeyemi. It is about the PDP family in Ekiti reclaiming its rightful place as the true voice of the people, the hope of the common man, and the credible alternative for good governance,” he said.
Odeyemi pledged fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency in his leadership, while promising to strengthen grassroots structures, empower youths and women, and uphold internal democracy.
He urged party members to close ranks and work together to return the PDP to Government House in 2026.
