The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has insisted that the party remains solid despite recent defections to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The reaction followed the defection of Maharazu Faru, the lawmaker representing Maradun II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, along with PDP ward executives and supporters, to the APC.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Gusau, the PDP Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, described the development as regrettable but not surprising.

Faru had cited Governor Dauda Lawal’s alleged failure to fulfil campaign promises and tackle insecurity as the reason for his exit, saying insecurity was the major reason voters backed him during the election.
However, the PDP dismissed his claims, stressing that Faru placed “personal interest above the collective will of the people.”
“History has shown that those who put personal interest above the collective will of the people often find themselves on the wrong side of history,” the statement read.
It added that the party under Governor Dauda Lawal’s leadership had been restoring hope, strengthening institutions and safeguarding lives and livelihoods across the state.
The PDP expressed confidence that it would retain its dominance in future elections, urging members and supporters to remain committed.
“We call on our members and supporters to remain steadfast and proud. No defection can shake our foundation or stop the will of the people,” the party said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that despite the defection, the PDP maintains majority control in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, holding 14 seats, while the APC now has 10 members.
