Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that the movement of governors between political parties will not prevent Nigerians from choosing leaders of their choice in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai stated this on Wednesday at the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, National Contact and Mobilization Office in Jos, Plateau State.
The former governor noted that although some Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors are leaving for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ordinary Nigerians are instead shifting their support to the ADC.

According to him, the ADC is gaining momentum nationwide and has the capacity to unite Plateau State and the entire country if elected into power in 2027.
He said the situation in Nigeria had deteriorated, but insisted that hope was not lost.
“Things are not going well in the country, but there is still hope,” he said, urging Plateau residents to rally behind the ADC.
El-Rufai, who shared a personal connection with Plateau State, recalled his frequent visits to Jos over 40 years ago when his fiancée was serving there under the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
“Since then, things have gone in the wrong direction, but with better leadership, we can unite the people of Plateau across ethnic and religious lines. We pray God gives us the ability to unite you,” he added.
The former governor declared that Nigerians are frustrated with both the APC and PDP, arguing that only a new leadership platform such as the ADC can rescue the nation.
“I know everyone is tired of this APC and PDP government. Governors from PDP are defecting to APC, but Nigerians are defecting to ADC.
By God’s grace, 230 million Nigerians will defeat 25 governors,” he said.
He added that Nigerians have already made up their minds to vote for the ADC in 2027, stressing the need for unity, credible candidates, and sound policies within the party.
El-Rufai praised the ADC for allocating 40% of leadership positions to youths and 35% to women, describing it as the only party with such inclusion.
In his remarks, the Plateau ADC coordinator, Hon. Jamilu Lawandi Datti, highlighted the challenges faced by youths — including unemployment, insecurity, and inadequate access to education and healthcare — urging them to embrace the party for meaningful change.
