Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested seven suspected cultists inside a hospital in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area, over an alleged violent conspiracy.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, disclosed the development on Thursday in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.

Yamu said the suspects—believed to be members of the Eiye Confraternity—were allegedly holding a strategic meeting to plan an imminent attack on a rival group, the Aye Confraternity, following a bloody clash between an Eiye member, identified by sources with the alias “I Dey Chop,” and one Asuelimen Saviour, said to belong to the Aye Confraternity. Both individuals reportedly sustained injuries during the confrontation.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on November 15, 2025, by a tactical team led by the Divisional Police Officer, while acting on credible intelligence.
He said items recovered from the arrested suspects included one battle axe, as well as assorted cult paraphernalia.
The police spokesperson added that Asuelimen Saviour was subsequently arrested on November 16, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
Yamu described the arrests as a breakthrough in the Command’s sustained clampdown on violent crime, including cult-related clashes, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other security threats across Edo State.
He further assured residents of the Command’s unwavering determination to maintain public safety and enforce the law without fear or favour.
“The Edo State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring the security of all residents,” Yamu stated.
