The Edo State Government has rejected allegations by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, accusing it of engaging in provocative and destructive politics against former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Daily Post reports that the PDP also alleged that the state government was dismantling legacy projects initiated by Obaseki, describing the actions as political vendetta disguised as governance.

Responding, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, dismissed the claims in a statement titled “PDP and Their Ostentatious Dancers,” labelling them as laughable and symptomatic of a party in political distress.
Afegbua said the PDP lacked the moral authority to criticise the current administration, arguing that the opposition party was still battling internal fragmentation, which he claimed was orchestrated by Obaseki himself.
He accused the former governor of entering the PDP “like a bull in a China shop” and leaving division and destruction in his wake.
“The PDP remains in serious disarray, but perks from the former governor are now energising ostentatious dancers who have become coupon clippers and political jesters,” he said.
Afegbua further alleged that Obaseki, after leveraging PDP support to secure re-election in 2020, abandoned key party figures who championed his cause.
“He met the PDP intact when he begged to use the platform in 2020. He ran to Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in Port Harcourt for support. Once he got the platform, he immediately threw him under the bus and dealt a huge blow to another major pillar, fracturing the party into splinter groups including Government House PDP, Dan Orbih loyalists, Oredo PDP, Asue PDP, Oredo PDP, Oredo PDP and others,” he alleged.
Afegbua also took aim at what he called “litany-loaded achievements” rolled out by certain PDP figures, describing them as exaggerated claims disconnected from Edo’s reality.
“I read what a factional PDP voice, Dan Ogbegie, rolled out as so-called achievements. If only they were true reflections of reality, Edo would naturally sing hosannah. But a government built on conjecture and propaganda should be ashamed,” he said.
He mocked the party’s media narratives, referring to it as “PDP Comedy Television,” and alleged that several claimed projects were either imaginary or abandoned.
He also cited the Benin Enterprise Park project, which he said was launched by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, but remains undeveloped.
“Residents struggle daily to navigate disrepair. The same former vice president is still wondering how he fell for the Benin Enterprise Park flag-off, which has now been overgrown with weeds. Even in Edo’s education sector, the EdoBest project is still clouded in allegations of monumental fraud,” he alleged.
Afegbua said the state government was addressing decayed infrastructure under Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that progress was ongoing despite opposition criticisms.
He reaffirmed the administration’s focus on rebuilding the state, concluding that the government was committed to restoring Edo’s prosperity rather than indulging in political theatrics.
