Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has presented a ₦1.3 trillion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
The budget, tagged the “Budget of Consolidation,” allocates ₦270 billion to recurrent expenditure and over ₦761 billion to capital projects.
A breakdown of the estimates shows that recurrent spending accounts for about ₦270 billion, representing 26.19 per cent of the total budget, while capital expenditure stands at over ₦761 billion, amounting to 73.81 per cent.

Presenting the proposal, Governor Bago said the budget would be financed through statutory allocations, value-added tax (VAT), internally generated revenue (IGR), other Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) receipts, capital receipts, grants and loans.
According to him, the 2026 budget is designed to consolidate the gains of previous fiscal years while addressing current challenges facing the state amid a rapidly evolving global economy.
“The budget will build on past gains while addressing the pressing needs of the present,” the governor said.
He explained that the economic sector received the highest allocation of over ₦510 billion, while the transportation sector got the least allocation of just over ₦1 billion.
Bago noted that government interventions in the 2026 fiscal year would focus on strategic priority areas, including wealth and job creation, agricultural transformation, strengthening of the health sector, consolidation of road infrastructure, and completion of inherited water and electricity projects.
Other focus areas, he said, include improving the education sector, enhancing internal revenue generation, strict adherence to due process, digital transformation of state-owned media, consolidation of peace and security, and partnerships for development.
“The 2026 Budget is anchored on fiscal discipline, strategic investment, and targeted interventions aimed at expanding economic opportunities for our citizens,” Bago stated.
He added that the budget is also geared towards completing ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, despite inflationary pressures and fluctuating revenues.
According to the governor, the proposal reflects the confidence reposed in his administration by the people of Niger State and builds on achievements recorded in previous budgets.
Bago commended the Speaker of the House, Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, and other members of the 10th State House of Assembly for their cooperation and commitment to the development of the state.
He urged lawmakers to give the 2026 appropriation bill prompt consideration and passage in the interest of accelerated development and improved service delivery in Niger State.
