The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has lifted the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the action as illegal, null and void.
In a statement issued from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, the NNPP said some executives in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, acted in clear violation of the party’s constitution.
The statement, signed by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, said the NWC condemned the purported suspension “in the strongest terms,” stressing that ward officials lack the constitutional authority to suspend or remove a state chairman.

“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party condemns the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, stating that such action is misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” the statement read.
The party described the move by the Gargari Ward executives as a grave act of anti-party behaviour, noting that it violated established rules guiding discipline and leadership structure within the NNPP.
The NWC also commended Dungurawa’s leadership, describing him as a committed and hardworking chairman who has contributed significantly to the growth of the party in Kano State. It said his efforts have strengthened the NNPP’s structure and should not be undermined by what it termed “questionable actions” at the ward level.
The development comes amid rising internal tensions within the NNPP in Kano State, with disagreements over party leadership and reports of possible political realignments ahead of future elections.
The party leadership urged members to adhere strictly to the party’s constitution, respect internal democratic processes, and refrain from actions capable of causing division within the party.
