Former Abia State governors, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Theodore Orji, have held a strategic meeting in Umuahia aimed at mobilising political forces to unseat Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the meeting on Friday, Kalu said the gathering brought together political actors who governed or held public offices in Abia State between 2009 and 2023, with a view to forming a united political bloc.
The senator representing Abia North proposed the expansion of the group to include all former political office holders from the same period, stressing that their collective experience and contributions to the development of the state should not be overlooked.

According to Kalu, the group, known as “The Team,” played a significant role in shaping Abia State during their years in government.
He dismissed claims that previous administrations were irrelevant, describing governance as a continuous process rather than a single, isolated effort.
“Leadership is a relay,” Kalu said. “I handed over to Senator T.A. Orji, who handed over to Okezie Ikpeazu. No single individual can claim we achieved nothing. If we did nothing, where would our people be today?”
Kalu stated that the objective of the group was clear, declaring that political change must take place in Abia State in the 2027 elections.
He also noted that the platform cuts across party lines and remains open to allies, regardless of their political affiliation.
