The Benue State Government has moved to address concerns surrounding the slaughterhouse located along Awe Street in Makurdi, the state capital.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed the Benue State Urban Development Board (BSUDB) to take immediate action at the site following complaints from members of the public.
In line with the directive, heads of departments from the BSUDB visited the area to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

An official of the board confirmed that all necessary heavy-duty equipment has been mobilised, adding that work would commence on Sunday, January 19, 2026.
Residents and business operators within the vicinity have been advised to remove all illegal structures ahead of the planned demolition, warning that defaulters would face enforced clearance.
Officials further hinted that the cleared space may be redeveloped for commercial purposes, including the possible construction of a shopping mall, as part of ongoing urban renewal efforts on Awe Street.
Governor Alia, the BSUDB, the Benue State Police Command and the state government have been commended for their swift intervention.
InfoStride News recalls that the police recently arrested 41 persons in the area over activities linked to the slaughterhouse.
