The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has condemned remarks by the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, calling on the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, to resign from office.
In a statement issued by the party’s Kano State spokesman, Ibrahim Karaye, the NNPP maintained that the Constitution permits the deputy governor to remain in office.

The party explained that Waiya’s comments followed Gwarzo’s decision not to defect alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and some aides to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to the NNPP, Gwarzo retains the constitutional right to continue performing his duties, noting that he and the governor were elected on a joint ticket.
The party urged the state executive arm to refrain from political interference and focus strictly on responsibilities assigned by the Constitution.
“It is important for the deputy governor to continue holding his position in the interest of better leadership in the state,” the statement said.
The NNPP also stated that the Information Commissioner was not part of the struggle that led to the formation of the current government, advising him to refrain from making such remarks.
