The Presidency has explained the circumstances surrounding the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Egbetokun stepped down from his position due to personal matters requiring his full attention.

According to Onanuga, the former police chief cited family issues that demanded his undivided attention in the resignation letter submitted to the president.
“The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which required his undivided attention,” Onanuga stated.
Reports of Egbetokun’s resignation had earlier dominated the news space on Tuesday.
The development was said to have followed a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where the president reportedly directed him to resign.
