The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, describing it as the most ineffective government in Nigeria’s history.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the government of struggling to properly implement national budgets and frequently reversing key policy and appointment decisions.

According to the ADC, Nigeria is currently in an unusual situation where the federal government is handling three national budgets simultaneously without fully implementing any of them.
The party noted that although the 2024 budget was extended into 2025, reports indicate that only a small portion of the capital expenditure had been released by the third quarter of 2025.
It dismissed the government’s explanation that the arrangement was aimed at completing long-term projects, arguing that the justification was not convincing.
The ADC further pointed out that part of the 2025 budget is expected to run between February and November 2026, while the remaining portion is being rolled into the 2026 budget, which lawmakers are still debating months into the year.
The statement added that key sectors such as power, communications, education and health have recorded low levels of capital spending, raising concerns about the government’s priorities.
It noted that the Ministry of Defence is the only ministry that has reportedly spent more than its allocated budget, largely due to emergency funding, even as security challenges persist in several parts of the country.
The party also questioned how government revenues and loans are being utilised, saying Nigerians continue to face severe economic hardship despite reports of improved revenue and rising foreign reserves.
“The Tinubu government has proven that to them everything is about politics and power for its own sake. This is why Nigerians are being slaughtered at an industrial scale across the country while the government feasts,” the statement said.
It added that despite claims of economic progress, Nigeria still has one of the highest numbers of people living in extreme poverty globally, with many citizens struggling to afford basic meals.
“Yet what we see is a government that continues to gloat over its ‘victory’ in the FCT election and obsess over ADC online membership registration,” the party stated.
The ADC also accused the administration of repeatedly reversing major decisions and focusing more on political calculations and elections than on governance.
