Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed security agencies to adopt proactive measures to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the state.
Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, gave the directive on Monday during an expanded security meeting in Damaturu.
He urged security operatives to maintain a visible presence across the state’s 17 local government areas and strengthen surveillance in border communities.

“In a bid to curb insecurity, we must enhance intelligence-led patrols and foster synergy among security formations to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the festive period,” he said.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Emmanuel Ado, said the meeting reviewed recent security breaches in neighbouring states and assessed potential vulnerabilities within Yobe.
Ado also announced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles without number plates or with covered plates, describing the practice as a security risk.
He noted that the state remained relatively calm but assured residents that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration.
