The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N25.6 million fraud involving 400 bags of beans.
According to a statement by the EFCC, the defendant was brought before Justice Aisha Kumaliya on Thursday, April 16, 2026, on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining by false pretence.
The anti-graft agency alleged that Korimi defrauded his victim of N25,647,000 under the guise of a business transaction.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi, on or about July 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud obtained 400 bags of beans valued at N25,647,000 from one Maina Hassan Madube under the false pretence that you would supply same to your customers at Sango-Ota, Ogun State, and make payment within one week, a representation you knew to be false.”
The EFCC said the offence is contrary to Section 1(1) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, urged the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.
Justice Kumaliya subsequently adjourned the matter to April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility.
The EFCC stated that the case stems from a transaction in which the defendant allegedly obtained the beans for supply to a customer in Sango-Ota but failed to fulfil the agreement.
