The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced the election of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as its new National Chairman.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP described Mohammed as an astute administrator who previously served as its National Organising Secretary.

The party expressed confidence that the new chairman brings a wealth of experience, tactical insight, and a strong commitment to its grassroots ideology.
The NNPP also acknowledged the exit of its former National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, who resigned to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“On behalf of our national leadership, the National Executive Committee, and our members across the 36 states and the FCT, we thank Dr. Ajuji Ahmed for his dedicated service. We recognise his contributions and wish him the very best in his future political endeavours,” the statement read.
The party noted that the leadership transition comes at a critical period in Nigeria’s political landscape, citing economic hardship, rising inflation, and insecurity as major concerns.
It also alleged increasing pressure on opposition parties through internal crises, legal disputes, and what it described as “judicial warfare” aimed at weakening credible alternatives.
According to the NNPP, Mohammed’s emergence signals a renewed determination to strengthen the party and position it as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man. Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation,” the statement added.
The party called on its members and supporters to rally behind the new leadership, expressing confidence that it is well-positioned to navigate the political landscape and present credible governance options to Nigerians.
