A member of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election.
Agbedi made the disclosure while speaking on Politics Today on Wednesday.
According to him, Jonathan would contest the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan is running for election with the Peoples Democratic Party, whichever way you want to put it,” he said.
Agbedi also alleged that the “PDAPC” was promoting certain professors and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission as observers for elections despite not being recognised by law.
“The PDAPC is promoting certain professors and INEC officials as observers for their election. However, the PDAPC is not recognised by law, and it seems that INEC is intentionally keeping them involved.
“You recall the decisions made by the Appeal Court and Supreme Court. The party has contacted INEC and sent reminders stating that the PDAPC is not recognised based on the court’s ruling, yet INEC is still holding onto them,” Agbedi stated.
His comments followed a recent ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja which affirmed Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Last week, a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki reportedly granted Jonathan a waiver to contest for the presidency.
However, Johnmary Jideobi had filed a suit seeking an order restraining Jonathan from emerging as a candidate of any political party in the 2027 presidential election.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu ruled that Jonathan remains eligible to participate in the election as a candidate.
