FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, made a mistake by joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying he would have advised against the move if consulted.
Wike, who served as Chief of Staff under Amaechi during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, made the remarks during a media chat on Monday.
Amaechi was among prominent political figures who joined the ADC coalition and declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

However, he lost the party’s presidential primary to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who subsequently emerged as the ADC’s flag-bearer for the election.
Following the primary, Amaechi rejected the outcome, alleging widespread irregularities and electoral malpractice. Although he vowed to challenge the result, he has remained silent since Atiku visited him at his Abuja residence.
Despite their long-standing political rivalry, Wike described Amaechi as his brother and said he foresaw the outcome of the ADC primary election.
“Amaechi is my brother. I served under his administration. And when I saw that he was running, I saw the setup. If he had called me before joining the ADC, I would have told him, ‘Don’t go there,’” Wike said.
According to the FCT minister, there was no transparency or due process in the conduct of the ADC primary election.
“It was very clear. No transparency or due process. When I saw the setup in ADC and I saw David Mark, I laughed. When you’ve worked with people, you know who’s who and who would do what.
“That party was Atiku’s setup, one hundred per cent. You can’t set a trap for me. My brother Amaechi made a mistake. He was in too much of a hurry. He was carried away by people who were shouting,” he said.
Wike further maintained that the outcome of the primary was predictable, insisting that the party leadership was unlikely to conduct a free and fair contest.
Amaechi and Wike, both former governors of Rivers State, have remained political adversaries for years despite their previous working relationship.
