Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has explained his tears after scoring a hat-trick against Algeria at the 2026 World Cup. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Revealing that his tears had nothing to do with reaching the milestone of becoming the first player in history to play in six World Cup finals, Messi said that he cried because he had been going through difficult days.

Lionel added that he is grateful to his teammates for giving him the strength to overcome his problems.
His words, “Why did I cry? It was something completely unrelated to football.
I went through some difficult days, but I’m grateful to the entire delegation and my teammates because they were always by my side, giving me a lot of strength to help me get through it.”
Scaloni added, “At a loss for words about Leo. What can I say? He’s incredible.
It’s not about imagining [if he could have a start like this]. He’s been doing this for 20 years. People who watch football want to see him, it’s not just Argentines.
Beyond the result, we have to enjoy him. What he transmits to the world is incredible. As long as Leo wants to, he’ll be the best; he’s been doing it every match for 20 years.
It’s thrilling to watch him, for anyone who loves football. He’s something difficult to explain.
We’re not going to get complacent; it strengthens us to know that if we do things right and work like we did today, we’ll make it tough for them to beat us.”
