The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he would strengthen opposition parties and encourage their participation in governance if elected Nigeria’s president.
Obi made the remark during an interview with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, which aired on Saturday.

According to the former Anambra State governor, political leaders should be focused on bringing together diverse ideas and stakeholders to advance the country’s interests.
Responding to a question on whether President Bola Tinubu believes his party has a monopoly on solutions to Nigeria’s challenges, Obi said no political party possesses all the ideas needed to develop the country.
“If I’m the president of this country, I will do everything possible to make opposition parties strong and participatory in governance,” Obi said.
He maintained that broad consultation and inclusiveness would produce better governance and more effective policies.
“The more you bring everybody together, the more we discuss it, the more we consult, the better result,” he added.
Obi was among political leaders who formed an opposition coalition under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in July 2025 and formally joined the party on December 31, 2025.
However, he left the ADC in May 2026 and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal divisions and ongoing legal disputes within the party.
