The Accord Party has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the August 15 Osun State governorship election is conducted freely and without interference.
The party made the appeal amid growing political tension in the state and controversy surrounding recent actions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) involving the Osun State Government.
Accord urged the President to allow all political parties and candidates to compete on an equal footing, stressing that security and law enforcement agencies must operate independently and professionally.
The party expressed concern that actions by federal agencies shortly before the election could create the perception of political interference if not properly explained.
It therefore called on the Federal Government to demonstrate its commitment to democratic principles by ensuring that state institutions are not used to favour or disadvantage any candidate.
Accord also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to provide a level playing field for all contestants and protect voters from intimidation.
The party appealed to its supporters and other political actors in the state to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the electoral process.
It maintained that a transparent and credible election would strengthen democracy and enhance public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
