Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has explained his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party as a “carcass” at the time of his departure.
Fayose said he made the decision after concluding that the PDP was no longer capable of providing the political platform he needed to advance his interests.

The former governor disclosed that his decision was also influenced by discussions with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to Fayose, Makinde had assured him that he would not work against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He said the understanding played a role in his political calculations and subsequent decision to distance himself from the PDP.
Fayose, who has remained critical of some developments within the opposition party, said political actors must be realistic when making decisions about their political future.
He argued that politicians should consider the prevailing political environment and the interests of their supporters when choosing alliances.
The former governor also spoke about the broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying several politicians were reassessing their positions and relationships.
Fayose maintained that his decision was based on his assessment of the political situation at the time and should not be interpreted as a betrayal of his former party.
He urged political leaders to focus on the interests of Nigerians and work towards stability and effective governance.
