MANCHESTER UNITED are “on the brink of signing £40million midfielder Fabinho” from Monaco.
Jose Mourinho has been keen to bring the highly-rated midfielder, 23, to Old Trafford for months now.
According to reports in Portugal, the Special One may finally have his wish – while Fabinho‘s wife, Rebeca Tavares, also dropped a huge hint regarding the deal.
O Jogo journalist Bruno Andrade originally claimed United were on the verge of landing the Ligue 1 champion midfielder.
Following the announcement of Benfica star Victor Lindelof’s move to Manchester, he tweeted: “Nelson Semedo is another Benfica player Manchester United are interested in.
“Fabinho (Monaco) should be announced next.”
Just hours later, Fabinho’s wife Tavares added intrigue to the deal by liking an Instagram post by a United fan begging him to join the club.
One supporter wrote: “Come to Manchester United, please.”
Tavares then liked the post, before deleting all evidence of her action, prompting eagle-eyed United supporters to assume the versatile Brazilian is on his way.
While Fabinho only recently signed a new deal at Ligue 1 champions Monaco, running until 2021, he did reveal his desire to play for United earlier in 2017.
He said: “My objective is to get to a club with the dimension of Manchester United.
“I have no clue if one day I’ll be a United player, but I’ll keep working so it stops being a rumour and becomes reality.”
The news will come as a huge boost to United, who could only finish sixth in the Premier League this term, despite the world-record £89m deal for Paul Pogba last summer.
On top of the Fabinho suggestions United have agreed a deal for Lindelof, as well as taking another huge step in their quest to land Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata.
