APC Desperate to Silence Opposition, Can’t Sell Tinubu – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is desperate to silence opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections because it cannot successfully campaign for President Bola Tinubu based on his administration’s performance.

Makinde made the remark while reacting to the political developments and growing opposition activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor said attempts to restrict opposition politicians from freely expressing their views or campaigning across the country would undermine democratic principles.

He maintained that political parties should be allowed to present their candidates and programmes to Nigerians, while voters should be given the opportunity to make informed choices at the polls.

Makinde argued that rather than attempting to weaken opposition parties, the APC should focus on convincing Nigerians through its policies and achievements.

He also urged political actors to embrace healthy competition and avoid actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.

According to him, the electorate would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections based on the performance of the various political parties and their candidates.

The governor stressed the importance of allowing opposition politicians to campaign freely, saying democracy thrives when citizens have access to competing ideas and political alternatives.

He called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend their right to participate freely in political activities ahead of the election.

Makinde maintained that the 2027 polls should be conducted in an atmosphere where every candidate and political party is given a fair opportunity to seek the support of Nigerians.
