Oyo APC Candidate Accuses Makinde of Weakening Local Government System

The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of weakening the local government system in the state.

Alli made the allegation in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele.

The senator, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, alleged that the Makinde administration had undermined the effectiveness of local governments, which he described as important channels for delivering development at the grassroots.

Alli claimed that the governor’s alleged lack of confidence in the local government system had contributed to what he described as its poor performance across the state.

He further criticised Makinde over what he termed an inadequate focus on the third tier of government during his tenure.

The APC candidate also linked his criticism to Makinde’s political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, noting that the governor is seeking the presidential ticket of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

Alli alleged that the situation had affected the ability of local governments to effectively deliver development at the grassroots.

He urged residents to scrutinise the records and policies of political actors as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

The allegations are part of the ongoing political contest in Oyo State, with parties and candidates increasingly stepping up their campaigns and criticism ahead of the 2027 elections.
